Week 4 Reflection

T2W4 Learning Reflection

Dear Parents and Carers,

Today we predicted how long it would take to write the blog. Here are some of the predictions:

Banjo 44 minutes

Sebastien 31 minutes

Harry 17 minutes

This week have been doing new provocations and they are really pleasant (Sam) and productive (Archie M.).  We have been lucky enough to have parents coming in to share how they use writing in their jobs (Lilian). On Monday Kelly (Alannah’s mum) came in and talked about her job at the City of Port Phillip.  She uses writing to help the local government. She uses writing to communicate with people in the community so they understand important information such as accessibility to restaurants and toilets (Bessie).

On Tuesday Jane (Wren’s mum) came in to talk about how she uses writing at Lune Patisserie.  She uses writing to label food containers (Scarlett H), to email people (Kaan) and to communicate with people in her team using an App (Ziyu).

On Wednesday Cat (Lyla’s mum) came in to tell us how she uses writing as a Business Consultant.  She uses writing on sticky notes for people to describe how they feel about their jobs. She asks them to write it down as it as a more private way of communicating (Ahilan).

On Thursday Emily (Hugo’s mum) came in to tell us how she uses writing as an Art Curator.  She speaks to different artists and recording important information about what they have created. Writing is used to share this information with the public.

We have also been writing letters to parents, carers, friends and other members of our family to persuade them to do something (come for a playdate, invite ourselves over to someone else’s house, request a sleepover at Grandma’s house).  We have also been looking for persuasive language in our community. We have looked at pamphlets, advertisements and websites. We would love to see more examples so if you have some at home please send them to school.

During the week we have made predictions about time, money, costs of hot air balloon tickets, distances and even how long a blog post takes.  So far it has taken us 30 minutes. So we had better sign off.

But before we go let’s talk about graphing!  We each asked five people how many laps they did at the Walkathon then we made a bar graph to display this information visually.

Well done to our two musicians (Sam and Tristan) who played beautifully in front of the Year 2 neighbourhood on Friday afternoon.

See you next week!
