Learning Focus – Week 11 (Final Week)

Hello all!

We have arrived to Week 11 of this long and busy term! As the students are beginning to wrap up this semester, we are all very busy collating work to the best standard and into our portfolios ready for the upcoming student-led conferences.

Student Led Conferences

This Thursday commencing at 1pm, the student led conferences will be held at school. As this is an opportunity for students to share their learning with you all, it’s also a chance for them to present their portfolios in a formal setting. Please note that these conferences are not only a time for our students to show their learning, we also encourage you to question or make comments on their inquiry learning. Please also note:

  • Each conference will run for a maximum of 15 minutes, please arrive at least 5-10 minutes before.
  • All teachers will hold their conferences in an enclosed area/room whilst there will also be a waiting room that has a set list of times for when your conferences will be held.
  • Please remember, it is a time for sharing their successes! So celebrate their learning!

Classifying Animals

As the students are busy preparing their portfolios, there will be only some opportunities for workshops and learning opportunities. This workshop provides students a different view of how to classify or group animals in the world. They will have the opportunity to create a brief powerpoint on their laptops explaining the difference between invertebrates and vertebrates as well as classifying ALL living things into 7 different categories: kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus and species and how these groups contains organisms with similar or very different characteristics.

Literature Workshops continued…

Continuing on from last week, each 3/4 teacher will read their own text to not only read to and with the students, but provide fantastic opportunities in developing reading skills (expression, fluency), comprehension of author’s intent as well as discussing themes within the texts. The texts that are included are The Butterfly Lion, The Iron Man, Charlotte’s Web, The Phantom Tollbooth and Finn Family Moomintroll.

Notes to remember for the final week:

  • Student-Led Conferences will be this Thursday beginning at 1pm.
  • Students will finish school on Thursday at 12:00pm.
  • School will finish at 2:30pm on Friday.
  • A final school assembly will be held at 2:00pm in the Gym.
  • Student Reports will be available tomorrow from 1:00pm via compass.

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the fantastic parents who have volunteered at school, helped out with our inquiry, supported the school programs and most importantly supported your child/ren through a long and busy term. On the behalf of the 3/4 staff, we want to wish you all a fantastic holiday break and look forward to seeing you fresh and ready for yet another busy and exciting second semester!
