Our Inquiry

During Projects and provocations, the prep children have been working hard on their inquiry. As we get closer to our launch day to Planet School, the students have been preparing for their trip.

We have been investigating the process of project work. We began by asking the students the crucial question “What is a project?” We welcome parents to go and have a look at some children’s responses on the Inquiry Wall in the Taurus near the Prep Performance Space. We agreed that many projects begin with ideas and that we record these ideas in many different ways. We have been investigating labelled diagrams recently and many students have opted to use this as a way to document their ideas of designs. We continue to encourage the students to work collaboratively. They have been attending wellbeing and teamwork workshops where they take part in exploring ideas related to collaborative work. This has supported many students to team up and work together towards a collective goal.

We have seen a vast improvement in the engagement and independence by students during projects and provocation times and now we are seeing them be able to continue to work on their projects across many weeks, following processes from discussions and planning to actualisation.

The students begun by discussing their ideas in groups.
They took turns in presenting their ideas and focused on listening respectfully to each other’s ideas.
Groups then designed together some of their ideas. The focus was to work as a team to create something collectively.
Students are now actualising their design using a variety of materials.

We practiced a little bit of democracy today by voting for the Prep Explorers logo.
