Makey Makey, Harold and Speech Making | Happenings

We have certainly had a busy week!  The Life Ed pulled into the school and some home groups have had an opportunity to visit this week (more home groups to come next week!) The program explored the safe use of medicines and how to communicate with your peers. Of course we got to see Harold, who has been teaching kids about health and safety for nearly 40 years.

Life Education has a great website with information, games and apps.

In the last few weeks, children have been creating their own pieces of music using the Makey Makey. The Makey Makey is a circuit that allows you to use creative objects for the keys on your computer. Children collected sounds around the school and used Scratch to program these for use with the Makey Makey.  This week they thought about the objects they were going to use to create their piece of music and wrote a score so anyone can play it.  Take a look at Makey Makey here.

We had a very special guest to the neighbourhood this week.  Jo, Lekzi’s Mum, came to speak about speech writing. This week we looked at some special speeches and explored different types of speeches. Jo spoke to us about the key points to consider when writing and making a speech as well as sharing some inspirational speeches. Jo has a long history of speech writing and has been a speech writer for politicians.
