On Monday, the Preps took part in a shared reading experience of The Hungry Giant’s Lunch.
It is a story that involves a character they have been introduced to in a previous Big Book (‘The Hungry Giant’). In this story, the giant is not as scary and does not order the town folk around, threatening to hit them with a bommy knocker. Rather, the giant is fed by the town folk and we discover that they receive a payment of gold coins for their service.
We explored how numbers can be found in books in different ways – as numerals, words and collections.
Then the children took part in a role play experience of ‘Hungry Maddy’s Lunch’ using play food.
The preps will continue to learn about numerals and number words in numeracy sessions this week.
