Take Home Books

You will noticing reading books coming home over the next week, and hopefully will have some opportunities to share these books with your children.

The purpose of the take home books is for children to practise their reading strategies at home. The text they will bring will be a ‘just right book’. A ‘just right book’ is one that the child can read with minimal support, but still challenging enough to practice their strategies.

We are encouraging children to read as much as possible when they are at home- including things such as the books we send home, non-fiction books from your child’s bookshelf that interest them, comics, recipe books, magazine- anything they can get their hands on! We would love to develop the love and joy of reading with the children.

We have also included in the take home folder, a list where they can record the books they have read and write any comments where necessary.  The comment section can be used for both parents and children to communicate with the teacher how they are feeling about the book. There is also an exercise book where they may like to make a reading response- it could be a picture, a written comment, maybe even their own story!

Due to time constraints, starting from next week, take home books will be changed over ONCE A WEEK- on Mondays. The children will be asked to put 5 books in their folders to last them the whole week. If you feel like your child would like to change them more often, or get more books, Leigh will be in the library every mornings at 8:45, so feel free to pop in and see her.

If you have any questions or concerns, please come in and see us!
