This year students from the Year 4 Neighbourhood will get to be a part of the PHPS Student Parliament, lead by our Year 6 students. This is an exciting new development for student voice and agency across all year levels that encourages different ideas and points of view to be heard and shared. Many students wrote applications to apply for the roles, by responding to the question “What qualities are important to have as the ‘Year 4 Represenative’ for PHPS Student Parliament?”:
I am interested in being a Year 4 representative because I am interested in learning more about student voice and what people think the school needs. I also have to be resilient because I have to work and learn with other people and I will adapt to the change of student voice. I hope to make the school a better place if I get to be a Year 4 representative. – Kat
This is why I want to be Year 4 representative: I will listen and definitely tell the Year 5/6 representative your amazing ideas if you tell me them. If you do vote for me I will really appreciate it. – Izzy
I want to be a Year 4 representative of the PHPS parlament. I will be a creative and responsible leader. If you guys give me ideas I will expand on your ideas. Also I will encourage your ideas for the school. I will discuss your ideas to the school’s student leaders and ministers and I will try to make your ideas real. – Hugo
I think the main qualities in a representative is they need to be all rounded, care for the school and kind. I think I am all off these things and I would really appreciate the opportunity. If I get voted I will listen to everyone’s ideas and help people when they need it. I will make the school a better place and respect the community. Student reps should be willing to take the risk of listening and I am willing to take the risk. – Tristan
I’d like to be a grade four student representative because I’m resilient and if a student representative is not resilient they’d probably just give up all the time. If you give up all the time then younger kids might get an idea to give up all the time too. I think it’s important to be resilient because I think it’s important to set an example to kids that are younger than myself. – Scarlett Hope
I think I would be a great rep because I would respect ideas and I would build and improve ideas. Frist I would be a good rep because I would also consider using other people’s ideas. I would build and add ideas and combine them together. Lastly I would be kind to others and not be selfish. I think I would be a good representative because I would respect ideas, build and improve on ideas, and be kind. This is why I think I would be a good representative for Year 4 in 2021. – Evelyn
To go for student parliament is a big role and you need a lot of special skills. The capabilities I have fit the role. If I get the role I will be open to everybody’s ideas and I will try to get softer and environmental toilet paper also toh try to get a canteen. I can be trusted by most people and I can carry a huge bit of responsibility. I can listen to others and respect their ideas. I will help people whenever and care for them. I amh very creative and respectful.I will think of everyone and hopefully everyone will like the improvements the school makes. – Lewis
The values that a school leader should have are: answering questions and answers from peers and trying their hardest to make the school a better place. I care about the school’s arts alot because it matters about how students learn with music, singing and arts. I think we need more whole school plays with all year levels, I’d also love to create school choirs and music ensembles where Year 2-6 play their instruments. I also care about how students are treated and I hope to stop bullying and teasing at school. This is why I would like to be Year 4 Rep and why I care about the school. – Wren
I think I would be a good representative for Year 4 because I am mindful, resilient, and creative. To be mindful you need to care for what others want, instead of just what you want , and to listen to other peers’ ideas. Being Resilient means to be cautious of what others and what they are experiencing. You need to walk into others shoes, and set a good example. You need to work out creative ways to solve problems, and make a change that someone wants, at the same time as combining an idea that a peer thought of, that helps the neighbourhood. That’s why I think I could be a good representative for Year 4. – Olivia
If I get voted in I will listen for every word that makes sense and I will not get angry or aggressive at all. Student rep should be kind and helpful because people don’t get angry – Wesley
My first point is that a good student must be willing to listen to others and take their suggestions into account because your job is to listen and contribute. My second quality is that you must treat people and their ideas with respect and before you make decisions look over your feedback and work with the other student reps to create a concept that has everyone’s ideas. My third idea is that a good student rep should be good with people and be able to speak clearly in front of them, because if you need to announce something at assembly or have a good idea you need to be able to pitch your idea with a calm and reassuring voice. – Claudia
The qualities I will have as a Student Rep are listening to people, being good at communicating, being kind and understanding how to improve things when things are bad. How I would include the ideas of other kids: I would make a suggestion box in all the neighbourhoods and people could put anonymous messages of things they want to suggest in it. Or they could email things. Sometimes in the morning, we could vote on ideas. I would take these ideas to Friday meetings with the other Student Reps. – Felix
