As part of our studies in maths, students have been working together to complete projects which involve considering and responding to a range of questions relating to planning a garden. We started with measuring and drawing a scaled diagram of the school garden beds, and calculating area and perimeter. The projects then involved researching food items that can be planted at this time of year, learning about how far apart to plant seeds, researching costs of seeds and seedlings and calculating a total estimated cost.
This week, students have started examining the ground in the garden beds, removing weeds and planning where different foods could be planted on a diagram. Students are encouraged to consider how they might be able to contribute to gardens in their yard or neighbourhood and continue building their connection to planting and growing food.
